About the Program

ARK (Adults Relating to Kids) is based on research conducted by the ARKGroup in cooperation with the University of Texas School of Public Health.

This ground-breaking research revealed a new paradigm for creating self-esteem in children. Rather than being a product of performance, high self-esteem is generated by a child's receiving unconditional love from an adult (parent, teacher, counselor, etc.) who is central in the child's life.

ARK helps adults learn how to discipline inappropriate behavior while still affirming the worth of the child. In enabling children and teens to value themselves in spite of their mistakes, it provides them with the ego strength to say "no" to negative peer pressure.

The ARK approach was developed by child-rearing author, speaker, and expert Dr. B. Glenn Wilkerson, President and founder of the ARKGroup and has been used successfully for over 20 years throughout the United States.

Two of our highly-acclaimed programs are ARK for Parents (and Caregivers) and ARK for Teachers.

ARK for Parents (and Caregivers) focuses on giving parents the support and tools they need in building deeply caring relationships with their children. The result is children with higher self-esteem, a more positive outlook on life, more resilient, and better mechanisms for dealing with difficult situations.

Our ARK for Teachers curricula includes three separate programs: ARK for Pre-K and Kindergarten, ARK for Elementary, and ARK for Secondary. In schools, our professional development programs contribute to lower drop-out rates, higher academic performance, less propensity for school violence, less bullying, more productive classrooms, better connections between the students and teachers, and a more positive social/emotional school environment.

The most effective way to utilize ARK's parent and teacher materials are in a small-group setting. Groups of parents meet weekly for eight weeks to view a DVD lesson and to discuss their real-life parenting situations whereby support and suggestions are freely shared. Educators meet twice a month to discuss their real-life teaching situations during which time support and suggestions are shared, and peer mentoring takes place.

Additional exciting ARK programming includes ARK for Christian Parents, ARK for College, ARK for Teens, ARK for Kids, ARK for Juvenile Justice Programs, and ARK for Prisons.

ARK groups meet in schools, churches, neighborhoods, community centers…really anywhere!
